L5 Undergraduate Certificate in Fashion Illustration (30 ECTS)
Program Description
The Undergraduate Certificate in Fashion Illustration is a 30 ECTS program designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in the art and techniques of fashion illustration. It focuses on two main areas:
The first area introduces students to the fundamentals of Basic Fashion Illustration and Textiles. Students will master fashion croquis, illustration techniques using various coloring media, and understand fabric properties, weights, and uses. They will also delve into fabric ornamentation techniques, gaining skills that will support them throughout the program. The module emphasizes ethical practices in study and application.
The second area is an advanced unit aimed at deepening students' understanding of the fashion design process and fostering their creative approach. Through portfolio creation, students will synthesize research and design into technical drawings and develop garment construction techniques for men’s, women’s, and children’s wear. This unit enhances their pattern cutting and construction skills while aligning designs with the needs of emerging consumer markets.

Mode of Assessment
Assessment will be through a range of different types of coursework. Across the modules of this program, the range of coursework assessments will generally include but are not limited to: Essays, Case Studies, Individual Reflective Learning Logs, Portfolios, Group Presentations, Critical Reflections, Group/Teamwork, Posters, Mood Boards, Drawing Sheets, Presentations, Project Proposals, and Project Reports.
Entry Requirements
The ideal learner to apply for the Undergraduate Certificate program would be: (Note: Each application will be assessed on their merit.)
- High school certificate or equivalent (e.g., MQF Level 4)
- Minimum Age: 18 years.
- English Proficiency: IELTS 6.0+ (waived for native speakers or those educated in English).
- Digital literacy: Basic computing skills in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and internet usage.
- Creative interest in art, design, 3D modelling, or space planning.
- Mature learners: 3+ years of work experience.
- Transfer Learners: Eligible for RPL at Level 5 with prior accredited qualifications.
